Petit Le Mans Ends Early for Pumpelly

BRASELTON, Ga. (Oct. 6, 2014) – What was shaping up to be a promising 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar season finale for Spencer Pumpelly ended prematurely in the tire wall at Turn 12. Though he walked away from the accident unharmed, Pumpelly and team were left wondering what might have been—a sentiment that could be applied to the entire season.
Pumpelly and Flying Lizard Motorsports were looking forward to the 10-hour season-ending endurance race at Road Atlanta. The Audi R8 LMS has been strong in cooler temperatures and the forecast for Saturday’s race predicted highs in the low 60s.

Pumpelly Salvages Seventh-Place Finish at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (Aug. 11, 2014) – Spencer Pumpelly and the No. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Audi R8 LMS could not catch a break in the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America. A series of on track incidents and two punctured tires made the eighth round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship one to forget.
The heavier Audi R8 LMS continues to fight an uneven battle against its lighter GTD competitors. A disappointing qualifying session on Saturday resulted in a 12th-place grid position for Pumpelly. On Sunday morning, the withdrawal of the GTD pole-sitting car after the morning warm up promoted the No. 45 to 11th on the grid. Read more...

For Pumpelly and team, the event began more than a week before the green flag, with official scrutineering taking place Sunday, June 8, in the city center. It wasn’t until Wednesday, June 11, that the No. 66 first took to the 8.469-mile course made up of numerous public roads. Pumpelly’s Sebring Race Plagued with Bad Luck

SEBRING, Fla. (March 17, 2014)
 – Spencer Pumpelly and the No. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Audi R8 team had high hopes coming into Sebring International Raceway after a podium finish in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in January. Unfortunately, four different flat tires hindered the team’s best-laid plans during the infamous 12-hour race.
Though the No. 45 started toward the back of the GTD grid, it quickly moved toward the front of the class during the opening hours of the race, which was fraught with full-course cautions. But just as the No 45 was making forward progress, lady luck pulled her back. The car suffered not one, not two, but four seperate flat tires during the endurance race, losing approximately two laps each time the car was forced to pit.

Pumpelly Finishes Second at Rolex 24 Following Controversial Finish

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 28, 2014) - Spencer Pumpelly finished second in the GTD category at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the opening round of the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. Flying Lizard Motorsports initially believed their extraordinary efforts over 24 hours of racing had resulted in a victory, but a controversial decision by IMSA officials ended the celebration hours after the race.
Starting fifth on the grid, Pumpelly's teammate Tim Pappas started the race and kept the No. 45 Audi R8 LMS out of trouble and on the lead lap before handing over to Pumpelly. During his first stint, Pumpelly moved the car through the GTD field and up to third. Read more...
