Win in Canada is a Narrow Miss for Pumpelly

BOWMANVILLE, Canada (July 22, 2013)
 – Spencer Pumpelly came just 2.3 seconds short of capturing his second-straight American Le Mans Series GTC victory on Sunday. Instead, it was a runner-up finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park for the driver of the No. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

Qualifying for the GTC class illustrated how tight the category is, with the top four separated by just 0.6-second. Pumpelly squeezed the most out of the No. 45, putting it third on the grid with a 1:21.924 (108.056 mph).

For the start of the two hour and 45 minute race, teammate Nelson Canache Jr. got behind the wheel. The Venezuelan had an extraordinary opening stint, moving from third to first in GTC in the first two corners of the opening lap. He gradually built up a gap to second place as he prepared to hand the car over to Pumpelly.

Promising Watkins Glen Weekend Goes Awry for Pumpelly

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (July 1, 2013) – The GRAND-AM weekend at Watkins Glen International Raceway in upstate New York provided Spencer Pumpelly with two strong opportunities to take BGB Motorsports to the podium. Despite promising starts to both the Continental Tire Sports Care Challenge and Rolex Series races, cruel mechanical failures resulted in early exits.

Starting 15th on the grid for the Continental Tire 150 at The Glen, Pumpelly’s co-driver Dr. Jim Norman put in an impressive opening stint, pushing the No. 38 BGB Motorsports Porsche Carrera up to eighth in the GS class before handing the car over to Pumpelly. Eager to continue the Porsche’s climb through the field, Pumpelly rejoined the race, but halfway through his out lap, the engine gave up. Read more...

LONG BEACH, Calif. (April 22, 2013) - A Late-race charge from Spencer Pumpelly came up just 2.130 seconds short of a win at the Grand Prix of Long Beach, but resulted in the Porsche driver's second-straight American Le Mans Series GTC podium finish.

For his third career Long Beach race, Pumpelly partnered with Nelson Canache Jr. in the No. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Pumpelly qualified the car third with a lap of 1:23.014 (85.345 mph) around the 1.968-mile temporary street circuit.
